Employee assistance programs offer services that could help employees with both on the job and off the job stresses that often arise during the holiday season, says a message from the Army civilian personnel office.
While services differ, generally EAPs offer diagnostic and short-term aid with emotional and mental stress that employees face, including potential substance and alcohol use and financial issues, it said. Methods include counseling, treatment referral, and actual treatment; client follow-up and aftercare; supervisory consultation; crisis intervention; and workshops for managers and leaders.
“Federal and state laws guarantee the confidentiality of client identity and records. The primary concern is that employees receive the assistance they need,” it says, adding that the services typically are at no cost to employees.
