President Biden has signed into law S-2551, the ” Artificial Intelligence Training for the Acquisition Workforce Act,” to create a training program to help federal employees responsible for purchasing artificial intelligence technologies better understand the benefits it offers as well as the ethical and national security risks and benefits it poses.
Topics to be addressed in the training are to include the science underlying AI and how it works; benefits of AI for the federal government; the risks posed by AI and ways to mitigate these risks to ensure it is reliable, safe and trustworthy; and future trends in AI, including trends for homeland and national security and innovation. The training would have to be updated at least every two years to incorporate new information.
Also signed into law were:
* S-442, the “Bulb Replacement Improving Government with High-efficiency Technology Act,” which requires GSA to procure the most life-cycle cost effective and energy efficient lighting products.
* S-3470, the “End Human Trafficking in Government Contracts Act of 2022,” which requires Federal agencies to refer contractors engaged in human trafficking to the agency’s suspension and debarment official.
