The General Services Administration has given its first biennial travel and relocation innovation award to the Customs and Border Protection service for a volunteer relocation program under which border patrol agents may volunteer to relocate and receive a lump sum reimbursement for relocation expenses — albeit one that is less than the typical reimbursement paid for mandatory relocations.

GSA said it established the award recently in order to promote improvements in travel and relocation management.

The Department of Interior’s National Park Service Midwest Region received an honorable mention for creating a centralized, online travel and relocation program that provides quick access to travel information and reduces work hours and management costs associated with relocations, GSA said
