The CIO Council has issued a Cloud Operations Best Practices and Resource Guide for agency program managers, project managers and IT professionals involved with supporting the implementation and management of cloud operations.

The guide says the key objectives are to “provide foundational components of cloud operations, support implementation and maturation of cloud operations, and identify available resources to support an agency’s cloud operations.”

“The overarching theme of this guide is that cloud operations fundamentally differ from traditional IT operations. This difference emerges in virtually every aspect of IT operations, including strategy, planning, budgeting, governance, monitoring, provisioning, and more,” says the executive summary.

“A second theme focuses on the practices presented as part of a continuous effort to improve operations. There is no one-and-done, one-size-fits-all best practice. Instead, successful improvement in cloud operations will be incremental and repeated,” it says.

It covers areas including strategy, planning and organizational change management; cost, performance and quality management; security assessment and monitoring; engineering considerations; and more.
