In a somewhat tongue-in-cheek example of a way the government can call public attention to the value of the services it provides, the CIO Council has compiled 12 apps sponsored by federal agencies that it says are especially useful during the holiday season.
Services provided by those apps include a package tracking USPS; international travel information from the State Department and domestic travel information from TSA; weather conditions from NOAA; consumer information from the FTC; food safety information from Agriculture; local taxi service information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and ladder safety information from the CDC.
Also listed are several quasi-educational apps for children, including one from NORAD that “features a countdown to tracking Santa’s flight across the globe as well as games and information about NORAD’s mission.”
