The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has approved:
* S-285, to formally authorize and provide an ongoing source of funding for Federal Executive Boards, which coordinate emergency response, employee training and other interagency activities in more than two dozen city areas.
* S-311, to address an issue related to future retirement benefits for certain CBP officers that in some cases can result in lower benefits than were intended when the special law enforcement retirement provisions were extended to those positions in 2008.
* S-931, to require agencies to create a plan to purchase software in a more cost-effective manner by conducting an independent, comprehensive assessment of their software purchasing practices for use by their CIO officers in managing IT acquisition, with required reporting to the Congress, OMB, and GSA.
* S-1564, to require OPM to establish a training program on artificial intelligence for federal management officials and supervisors addressing the capabilities, risks, and ethical implications associated with AI; it would build on provisions enacted last year to require similar training for federal employees involved with procuring AI technologies.
