The House has joined the Senate in passing S-272, to require agencies to publish easily understandable justifications for their annual budget requests on a single, central website.
The bill also requires OMB to keep an updated list of agencies that are expected to submit budget justifications, the date of submission to Congress, the date the justification is posted online, and a link to the materials online.
Sponsors said the bill, once signed into law, “will make the budget process more transparent and accessible to the American people” and “will help rebuild the public’s trust in our government.”
Some agencies—including OPM, GSA, FLRA, MSPB and OGE in the federal employment realm—already post online their budget justification documents in conjunction with the annual general budget request from the White House.
