The Department of Homeland Security and over 40 agencies
tested continuity of operations plans during a two-day
exercise from May 12 — 13, part of Forward Challenge 04,
an exercise under the direction of the Federal Emergency
Management Agency, DHS has announced.
It said the exercise was a full-scale scenario-based event
in which federal departments and agencies implemented COOP
plans, deployed pre-designated personnel and leadership at
sites away from the immediate Washington D.C. vicinity where
they practiced carrying out essential functions.
This is the first government-wide COOP test and every major
department and agency in the national capital region is
scheduled to participate in Forward Challenge 04, said DHS.
