GSA has awarded a contracting officer in the Centers for Disease Control its 2010 “Ida Ustad Award” in recognition of tackling complex challenges in support of the H1N1 vaccine distribution effort.

Nancy Norton, team leader of the CDC’s procurement and grants office, received the award in part for developing and executing an innovating contracting methodology whereby she and her team carried out over 1,600 contracting actions totaling approximately $3.6 billion.

GSA said Norton was also instrumental in coordinating agency efforts to develop requirements and the contracting processes associated with Recovery Act funds obligated by CDC and that her efforts helped get vaccines to over 80 million people.

“In receiving this award, Nancy represents the spirit of innovation and ‘get it done’ mindset of the federal acquisition work force that is vital to good government operations,” said GSA administrator Martha Johnson.
