Seeking to address a backlog in employee background
investigations, the Office of Personnel Management has
approved a plan to use multiple blanket purchase agreements
for investigative services.
OPM said the government’s demand for background investigations–
for both in-house and contractor employees, at initial hire
and for periodic reinvestigations–exceeds the industry’s
ability to accomplish the work. The agreements with five
contractors–CACI-PTI, Kroll, Inc., Mantech MSM Security
Services, Inc., Omniplex World Services Corp. and Systems
Application and Technologies, Inc.–could result in some
2,000 new jobs over three years, increasing the capacity to
some 8,000 field investigators.
The start-up of the contracts will be staggered for reasons
related to OPM oversight and training and quality assurance.
