Federal Manager's Daily Report

The US Joint Forces Command has said the reductions to personnel resulting from the command being dismantled would affect mainly contractors, though some military and government civilian reductions also will take place.

JFCOM is based in southern Virginia and is responsible for the military’s joint training doctrine and operations but is being eliminated and its functions assigned to other organizations.

According to JFCOM, a two-star general officer will lead a new organization from Norfolk-Suffolk, Va., as deputy director for operational plans and joint force development on the Joint Staff, and all personnel moves resulting from the transition would be complete by March 2012.

It said the reorganized command would retain about 51 percent of its Virginia work force, which is being reduced from about 4,700 people to 2,425, and that the workforce in the Norfolk-Suffolk area would drop to 1,900 from 3,800 employees.
