The DoD inspector general has launched an investigation into plans to relocate 6,400 DoD personnel to the Mark Center in Alexandria Virginia as part of the most recent base realignment and closure round, the office of Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., has announced.
The congressman has opposed the plans and asked DoD to suspend or delay the move until Interstate-395 transportation improvements have been made in order to prevent worsening already bad traffic.
Moran pushed earlier in the year for a cap on the number of parking spaces as the site at 1,000 and added language to the 2011 defense-spending bill mandating that the IG review an Army Corps of Engineers analysis that he says enabled DoD to bypass a full environmental impact study.
