DHS has announced about $80 million in additional funding under the Recovery Act to pay for TSA airport security technology projects.
The funds include $28.3 million for the installation of an inline baggage system at San Diego International Airport; $26.6 million for the installation of two inline baggage screening systems at the Phoenix, Ariz., Sky Harbor International Airport; and $11.5 million for the construction of an inline baggage screening system at Little Rock, Ark., National Airport.
In addition, Salt Lake City, Utah, International Airport will receive $4 million to expand their closed circuit television system, DHS said.
It also awarded about $7 million to assist with the installation of over 250 reduced-size explosives detection systems, which are used to detect explosives in checked baggage at over 60 airports nationwide.
Over $3 billion has been committed to homeland security projects under the Recovery Act through DHS and GSA.
Out of the $1 billion allocated to TSA for aviation security projects, $734 million has been dedicated to screening checked baggage and $266 million is allocated for checkpoint explosives detection technologies, DHS said.
