DHS has announced plans to establish a comprehensive cross-border approach to critical infrastructure protection with Canada, focusing on information sharing and risk management.
"Today’s announcements reflect our commitment to cooperative action to protect and safeguard both nations’ vital assets, networks and systems, as well as the shared responsibility to protect all citizens from cross-border crime and terrorism,” said DHS secretary Janet Napolitano.
The “Canada-United States action plan for critical infrastructure” – available on DHS’s website — will support the pre-existing infrastructure protection plans of both nations.
Napolitano and Canadian Public Safety Minister Vic Toews also announced joint economic and security initiatives that include DHS assigning personnel to a Canadian effort to prevent the sexual exploitation and trafficking of Haitian children, and increased information sharing on currency seizures.
