Federal Manager's Daily Report

DHS has introduced an IT career path document to provide employees with a framework for navigating the department’s complex IT landscape.

According to a blog post by the department’s CIO, Richard Spires, the IT Career Path highlights what it takes to succeed at DHS, enabling employees to make informed decisions concerning their professional development.

The guidance includes career profiles for 11 IT functional areas across three career levels — individual contributor, manager, and senior leader – helping employees prepare for opportunities and familiarize themselves with various roles, responsibilities and competencies needed.

Spires said career maps were inspired by the reality that career paths can take unexpected turns, and show relationships between functional areas and offer insight into related roles and competencies.
