The Office of Personnel Management has granted the Department
of Defense direct hire authority for about 100 auditors at
grade levels 11 through 15, positions located within DoD’s
office of the deputy inspector general for auditing.
DoD requested the authority and met the conditions for a
“critical hiring need” to fill the positions that require
“specialized skills and management experience in auditing
financial statements and systems.”
OPM said it would review the use of the authority periodically
to make sure it’s being properly used. DoD projects the
“critical” need to hire another 200 auditors over the next
three years at GS-11 and above. Its current direct hire
authority extends through June 30, 2006.
