Federal Manager's Daily Report

DoD has announced that it selected 13 sites to participate in a Healthy Base Initiative – HBI, demonstration project aimed at boosting the health and wellness of its total force, including civilians and family members.

Installations participating in the one-year project (11 of 13 are military) will be examined for their ability to create environments that enable sustainable healthy lifestyles.

HBI is designed to identify effective ways to improve the overall health and wellness of service members, families, and civilians, and specific efforts will focus on making informed nutritional food choices, increased physical activity, weight management, and tobacco cessation, said DoD.

It said many longstanding programs at the services and installations will be evaluated to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and that best practices across participants will be shared with the services for further implementation throughout the force.

Participants include Fort Bragg, NC, Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, the Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, VA, and Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church, VA.
