Federal Manager's Daily Report

EEOC is seeking comments, through July 14, on issues related to the federal government’s practices in hiring people with disabilities, in preparation for expected rules changes in the area.

In particular, it said, current policies are not specific enough regarding agency obligations under rules requiring the government to be a “model employer.” It is seeking input on questions including:

What barriers do individuals with disabilities face in the federal recruitment and hiring process?

Should agencies be required to adopt employment goals, and if they are adopted, how should they be set, should they be applied equally to all types of jobs, and what should the consequences be for failing to meet them? If goals are not adopted, are other procedures needed to achieve the goal of being a model employer?

Are there any policies related to reasonable accommodation in addition to what exists now that would further the model employer directive?
