The Department of Energy has issued a request for proposals
for the management and operation of the Argonne National
Lab near Chicago, a major research facility, just weeks
after awarding a contract to a consortium including the
University of California and Bechtel to manage the Los
Alamos national lab.
The draft RFP requires that offers be from stand-alone
corporate entities in order to clarify lines of
responsibility and accountability under the new agreement.
The draft also allows for extensions beyond the initial
five-year term for an additional 15 years, the agency said.
It has scheduled a comment workshop for January 26 at the
Ramsey Auditorium at Wilson Hall, Fermi National Accelerator
Laboratory, Batavia, IL.
