The FAA has announced that it set up new screening and testing centers to hire air traffic controllers featuring consolidated security clearances, medical screenings, and fingerprinting to speed up the hiring process.
The agency set up one such “pre-employment processing center” in New York in January where some 90 candidates interviewed. It said the center combines screening and testing and can rotate to the FAA facilities where prospective controllers are interviewed.
The first hires – invited to participate in this process by centralized panels — received job offers within two weeks and will start at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City this month, the agency said.
Other centers will be held in Florida, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Texas, and Chicago over the next few months.
