The FAA has announced that it is accepting applications from the general public to become trainee air traffic controllers in July, for vacancies for both terminal and en route controller positions throughout the nation.
The agency said the rare public openings for entry level jobs support its controller workforce plan to hire approximately 15,000 controllers over the next decade, adding that it is undertaking intensive hiring to replace the large number of controllers that began their careers in the 1980s and who are now eligible to retire.
Any qualified U.S. citizen under the age of 31 can apply for the general public air traffic controller vacancies.
