The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a formal
solicitation for proposals to develop its next generation
electronic information management system, called Sentinel.
It issued the solicitation to over 40 companies eligible
under a National Institutes of Health contracting vehicle.
Earlier this year the FBI scrapped its Virtual Case File
management system after four years and $170 million
dollars of development.
FBI said it intends to replace its “legacy case management
capabilities with an integrated, paperless file management
and workflow system” — one that would help modernize the
bureau’s IT capabilities and transform its mission.
“Sentinel will further enable the FBI to achieve its mission
priorities by enhancing information access and promoting
information sharing with law enforcement and intelligence
community members, to include the Department of Justice
and the Department of Homeland Security,” according to an
FBI statement issued with the solicitation.
It said the program would be rolled out in four phases,
delivering capabilities to users throughout the
implementation — and that a tentative contract award would
be issued by the end of 2005.
