GAO has been asked to assess one impact of a major federal management reform law of recent times, the 2010 Government Performance and Results Act Modernization Act.
The law requires agencies to annually identify the reports and plans they reduce for Congress, identify which are outdated or duplicative, and consult with congressional committees to determine whether any could be eliminated.
In a letter to GAO, leaders of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee asked for a report on whether agencies are actually generating such a list, how they evaluate which reports are outdated or duplicative, how they are informing congressional committees and consulting with them, and how OMB compiles a central list of such reports.
