Federal Manager's Daily Report

GSA has announced the first meeting of a new government-wide travel advisory committee, which it says is a significant step toward implementing more transparent travel regulations and policies.

Travel spending has come under renewed scrutiny throughout the government in the face of intense budget pressures. GSA said it would convene the new committee on July 30 and that members would review existing travel policies, processes, and procedures for federal government travelers, beginning with assessing how annual adjustments are made to the federal per diem rate.

The 15 committee members are from the travel industry, federal, local and state governments, travel and convention bureaus, and representatives from corporations, GSA said.

It said that they would address current industry and federal travel trends while also providing advice and recommendations for improvements that will increase travel efficiency and effectiveness, reduce costs, promote sustainability, and incorporate industry best practices.
