GSA has said that agencies “should consider delaying all nonessential relocations” to areas in Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Puerto Rico impacted by Hurricanes Ian and Fiona.

“Due to the lasting effects of the storm damage to these affected areas, finding lodging facilities and/or adequate meals may be difficult, and distance involved may be great, resulting in increased cost for relocation per diem expenses,” the agency said in an October 14 Federal Register notice.

In particular, it said, the disruptions may affect ability to meet deadlines under policies for “temporary quarters subsistence expenses” allowances for temporary expenses when relocating to a new duty station.

The notice also gave agencies authority to waive time limits and limits on per diem rates for house-hunting trips in locations designated as disaster areas due to the hurricanes.
