Federal Manager's Daily Report

GSA has announced that the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) has issued a first provisional cloud security authorization.

GSA touts FedRAMP as a standard approach to cloud security assessments, authorization, and monitoring that can eliminate redundant agency security assessments – saving up to $200,000 per authorization.

A joint authorization board, comprised of CIOs from GSA and the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, approved the award to Autonomic Resources LLC, of Cary, North Carolina, which offers infrastructure-as-a-service capabilities for federal agencies.

Autonomic’s system is now provisionally authorized to securely contain federal information of a moderate level of security, GSA said.

It said the contractor had documented and fully implemented the FedRAMP security controls on its cloud services offerings, and had an independent FedRAMP accredited third party assessment organization audit the implementation.
