GSA and the Defense Information Systems Agency have announced the award of a “custom satellite communications solutions” contract to four small businesses as part of the Future Commercial Satellite Communications Services Acquisition program.
The GSA and DISA satellite communications partnership for FCSA was formed in August 2009 to help control the burgeoning costs associated with agencies’ use of satellite services as well as to provide the government with single point access for the purchase and delivery of mission-critical services, according to GSA.
It said agencies are increasingly using commercial satellite services for essential, secure communications to disaster recovery teams, emergency responders and the military, as well as distance learning and remote access to networks, among other uses.
The CS2-SB contracts have a five-year contract period and a ceiling of $900 million and GSA said awards for the companion CS2 full and open contracts for large scale end-to-end solutions are planned for later this quarter.
