GSA has issued guidance on management of warehouses, a topic that has been the subject of critical reports by agency IGs and GAO in recent years as well as OMB directives aimed at freezing and then reducing the federal real estate footprint.
The guidance, from GSA’s Office of Government-wide Policy and available at the agency’s website, comes in the form of a “best practices” resource. “The purpose of this resource page is to provide strategic guidance, best practices and information about successful initiatives,” GSA said in a Federal Register notice.
GSA said the initiative arose from a 2014 GAO report finding that the federal real property profile database contains inconsistent warehouse data and that agencies face a wide range of challenges in acquiring, managing and disposing of warehouse space.
