Federal Manager's Daily Report

GSA has announced the release of a “vehicle allocation methodology” tool to help agencies determine the optimal size and composition of their fleets, as called for under a 2009 executive order.

The order calls on agencies to reduce petroleum use by 30 percent by 2020. In response GSA has increased the number of hybrid vehicles in the federal fleet nine-fold through a replacement policy.

GSA said 80 percent of the vehicles that it incorporated into the federal fleet this year have been alternative fuel vehicles.

Agencies will be required to use the tool to develop and submit to GSA a fleet optimization management plan, including a schedule for the agency to follow as well as plans for acquiring alternative fuel vehicles, almost exclusively, by 2015.
