GSA has posted a budget justification document spelling out plans for new construction and refurbishment of buildings and other facilities, with an emphasis on efforts to consolidate agencies within existing government-owned and leased space to decrease reliance on leased space, increase energy and water conservation, and reduce the federal government’s real estate footprint.
The administration’s budget contains, for example, $60 million to improve safety systems, meet security requirements, cut energy costs, and reduce water consumption in buildings across the country; and $191 million to improve our land ports of entry facilities in New Mexico and New York, supporting increased security and trade.
Much of the emphasis on new construction and building acquisition is in the nation’s capital area, including further work to consolidate DHS headquarters, but other priorities include buildings ranging from New Jersey to North Dakota to Texas. Manor repairs are slated for a number of courthouses and federal buildings nationwide
