The GSA has announced a software programming and data innovation competition to be held October 16 with a goal of using the public and the academic sectors to help put government data to better use.
GSA is looking for applications, application programming interfaces and data uses that will “provide GSA with key insights and recommendations for future enhancements.”
“In this competition, participants are asked to develop a technology-driven solution using publicly available GSA data that allows an agency to identify opportunities for improvements and transparency. As such, GSA challenges the participants to create a solution using GSA data that could be replicated across government to every agency, using their own data,” the announcement said.
Possible subjects would include greenhouse gas reduction, data center consolidation and travel management.
The competition, to be held at GSA headquarters, will be for teams of up to five members and will include a prize of up to $1,000 per person, although the government will retain the rights to the results.
