Federal Manager's Daily Report

OPM and the Labor Department have sent joint guidance on carrying out a 2010 executive order requiring agencies to improve their efforts to employ workers with disabilities through increased recruitment, hiring, and retention of people with disabilities.

The order set a goal of employing an additional 100,000 people with disabilities over five years. Currently, about 5 percent of federal workers have conditions deemed to be disabilities under the law, and about 1 percent have disabilities severe enough to fall under a special preference for “targeted” disabilities.

The memo notes that resources include:

* eFedLink.org, an online community of practice designed to help Federal disability employment professionals advance employment for persons with disabilities.

* the Workforce Recruitment Program at www.wrp.gov can provide a pipeline for bringing people with disabilities into the workforce, both today and for years to come.

* a list of hundreds of candidates with disabilities who are eligible to be hired through the targeted hiring appointment authority is on the max federal community at https://max.omb.gov/maxportal/register/group/agy-opm.disabilitieshiring
