By: FEDweek StaffA spending bill for fiscal 2024 advancing in the House would reduce or eliminate funding for a number of Biden administration initiatives regarding federal buildings and the government’s environmental impact.
The general government appropriations bill, now ready for a vote in the House Appropriations Committee, would:
* Provide $9.3 billion for the federal buildings fund, $1.6 billion below the request and a decrease of more than $715 million from the current level. Among specific projects targeted would be denial of upfront money toward construction of a new headquarters building for the FBI that is projected to cost $3.5 billion long-term.
* Rescind $3.2 billion in funding previously approved but not yet spent toward green buildings, materials, and technology.
* Deny the administration’s request for $50 million for procurement by agencies of electric vehicles, batteries and charging stations.
* Provide no additional funding for the Technology Modernization Fund, which provides upfront money for replacing outdated IT; $50 million had been provided for 2023 and $200 million had been requested for 2024.
