The Department of Housing and Urban Development has made progress modernizing its IT environment but more actions are needed to implement necessary management controls, GAO told a House appropriations panel recently.
HUD has issued a department-wide strategic plan with associated goals that aligned with new IT strategic goals, but the department has not developed criteria for assessing the performance of its portfolios, finalized its plan to address its IT workforce needs, or established an approved policy for its enterprise architecture, according to GAO-12-580T.
However, it said HUD’s IT modernization expenditure plans have also improved in response to past GAO recommendations and now include key information on project capabilities, expected benefits, estimated costs, key milestones and staffing support.
