
Agency IGs made recommendations in audits and recommendations that if fulfilled would yield more than $93 billion, says the annual report from the IG council that meanwhile points out common management challenges across agencies.
In addition to the monetary potential from audit recommendations and investigations, says the report from the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, the work of the 74 resulted in nearly 4,700 indictments and criminal information being filed, more than 4,300 successful prosecutions, more than 2,900 suspensions or debarments of contractors, and nearly 3,200 personnel actions against federal and state and local employees.
The report also says that an analysis of IG reports shows common challenges in: information technology security and management (74 percent of agencies); human capital management (51 percent); performance management & accountability (40 percent); financial management (39 percent); procurement management (37 percent); grants management (37 percent); and homeland security, pandemic recovery, disaster preparedness, and climate change (17 percent).
It meanwhile cited cross-cutting initiatives including addressing common concerns about preparation for and response to natural disasters and uncovering fraud in pandemic relief spending.
