Federal Manager's Daily Report

The bipartisan leaders of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have sent letters to agency IGs asking them to list the recommendations they have made that their agencies haven’t carried out and the potential savings from full compliance.

The letters are the latest in a series of efforts by the committee and others to keep the spotlight on recommendations for improvements and how agency management responds to them—or doesn’t.

The committee has asked each IG to report on the number of recommendations that are open or unimplemented; when they were made; and the estimated cost savings associated with them.

They also were asked to list the three outstanding recommendations that each IG considers to be the most important or urgent, including the potential cost impact and whether agency management agreed or disagreed with the recommendation. The letter also asks for a summary of closed investigations that were not disclosed to the public since last March and the number of individuals referred for criminal prosecution and the outcome of those referrals.

The IGs also were asked to describe instances where the agency refused to provide information for an investigation or delayed or restricted access in that time.
