Ray Mabus, who served as governor of Mississippi from 1988 to 1994 and later as ambassador to Saudi Arabia, was sworn in as the 75th secretary of the Navy on May 19. He succeeds Donald Winter. Mabus, who holds a law degree from Harvard University, will oversee 900,000 military and civilian employees, as well as the combined $150 billion budget for the Navy and Marine Corps.
