The latest update on actions under the “strengthening and empowering the federal workforce” priority in the President’s Management Agenda highlights the OMB guidance calling on agencies to review telework and other workplace practices with an eye to potentially reducing telework, at least in customer-facing functions.

That guidance directs agencies “to set up both routine internal “health checkups” and long-term planning frameworks to increase their organizational health and performance,” says the update, which also cites recently launched training on managing in a hybrid work environment.

Other actions it highlights include a March memo from OPM on a strategy “to advance a federal government workforce of the future that is inclusive, agile, and engaged, with the right skills to enable mission delivery”; and OPM’s consolidation into one portal a number of data sets and reports on the federal workforce, including the FedScope database and Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey results.

“Interagency teams continue to work collaboratively to support outcomes related to hiring, retention, employee engagement and well-being, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA), leadership and skill development, and data-driven decision making,” it says.

“In the coming period, the workforce priority team will focus its efforts on empowering agencies to take action in support of the PMA’s objectives and continue its focus on enabling data-driven workforce decision making. For example, OPM will develop a method to track pooled hiring actions and candidates hired through pooled hiring actions in future quarters,” it says.

The update also includes activities under the PMA’s other two priorities, “delivering excellent customer experience” and “managing the business of government.”
