Federal Manager's Daily Report

The Presidential Management Fellows program class of 2011 rated their supervisors highly in some areas but many indicated their supervisors lacked an understanding of how the program works and gave mixed results of their experience on the job.

According to the Partnership for Public Service, around 80 percent of fellows said their supervisors had good technical skills and effective people skills, around 90 percent felt their supervisors respected them and valued their contributions, and over 70 percent said their supervisors communicated well and were available when needed.

However, only 63 percent said agency processes were clearly explained, and just 53 percent said their supervisors provided clear direction about daily roles and responsibilities.

Only 57 percent said his or her supervisor "understands how the PMF program works," something PPS said raises concerns about the preparation level of supervisors taking part in the program, which is looked at as a recruitment tool for valuable talent.

Further, PPS said it was concerned that just six in 10 fellows agreed that his or her supervisor "makes good use of my talents."
