Federal Manager's Daily Report

DHS has announced the appointment of Phyllis Schneck as the new deputy undersecretary for cybersecurity for the national protection and programs directorate.

Schneck is currently the vice president and chief technology officer for the global public sector at McAfee, Inc., and according to DHS, was a key contributor on the “Center for Strategic and International Studies Commission on Cybersecurity for the 44th Presidency.” Prior to McAfee, Schneck held several senior and information science positions including at IBM, NASA and the University of Maryland.

She joins DHS at a time of increasing urgency on cybersecurity issues both within the federal government and in regard to protecting critical infrastructure and curbing the theft of intellectual property.

DHS said she is also the chair of the Board of Directors of the National Cyber Forensics and Training Alliance, a cyber crime analysis partnership, and has served as chair of the NIST Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board.
