The National Academy of Public Administration, a good-government group, has named Theresa “Terry” Gerton, a retired Army officer and former senior official at DoD and elsewhere, as its new president and CEO.

The Academy describes itself as “an independent, non-profit, and non-partisan organization established to assist government leaders in building more effective, efficient, accountable and transparent organizations.” It has more than 800 fellows–including former cabinet officers, members of Congress, governors, as well as scholars, business executives and public administrators—who produce provide advice on government management-related issues through reports, conferences and other channels.
Gerton is a West Point graduate who holds an MBA from Duke University. After retiring from the Army, she was a career SES member at DoD, earning both the Meritorious and Distinguished Presidential Rank Awards, and most recently was deputy assistant secretary for policy at the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service in the Labor Department.
