Federal Manager's Daily Report

The National Academy of Public Administration has presented its annual National Public Service Awards, for excellence in public service at all levels of government, including the federal level. The awards individuals whose
accomplishments are models of public service within and outside the work environment.

The awards at the federal level went to: Joan W. Bauerlein, Director, Aviation Research and Development, Federal Aviation Administration; Annabelle T. Lockhart, Director, Civil Rights Center, U.S. Department of Labor; Leonidas Ralph Mecham, Director, Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts; and Howard A. Young, Ph.D., Principal Investigator, Laboratory of Experimental Immunology, National Cancer Institute.

The Keeper of the Flame award, given to an individual who has kept the fire of public service burning after retirement, went to Thomas S. Mcfee, former assistant secretary for personnel, Department of Health and Human
Services.
