The Navy has created a mobile application collection called the Navy App Locker in an effort to make sure that employees are using only official apps for career-related purposes.
In its announcement, the Navy said that it has 18 apps available for civilians, uniformed personnel and family members on topics such as training, career tools and education resources.
“The Navy App Locker assures users the apps they are downloading were developed by the Department of the Navy and contain relevant, up-to-date information,” it said.
The apps are designed to work on personal devices outside of the Navy domain, it added. They are accessible through commonly used resources for apps by searching for “navy app locker.”
In recent times several agencies have warned employees against the use of apps that appear to be official but aren’t, warning of the potential for security breaches and identity theft by apps that are designed to capture passwords and personal information.
