The Office of Personnel Management has approved a Defense
Department request to establish a new Schedule A authority
for Iraqi reconstruction. This new excepted service
appointment authority, conveyed in a November 24, memo
to DoD allows temporary or time limited (i.e., term)
appointments for positions in direct support of U.S.
efforts to rebuild Iraq.
The positions will generally be located in Iraq, but may
be in other locations, including the United States, when
directly supporting operations in Iraq. The new
appointment authority expires after March 31, 2009.
