The political director for President Obama’s reelection campaign has been sworn in as the new director of OPM.
Katherine Archuleta takes over the government’s primary personnel agency and will be tasked with recruiting and retaining the best federal workforce, as well as setting government-wide policy on personnel issues such as pay and leave, labor relations and workforce planning, among other tasks.
Archuleta served as the chief of staff to the Department of Labor in 2009 – 2011, and before that she served as senior advisor on policy initiatives for the city and county of Denver. Trained as an educator, she has also served as the executive director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation in 2002 – 2005, and as the director of professional services for a Denver law firm.
"As an educator, a public administrator, and a community leader, I know the value of bringing together talented people with diverse ideas and perspectives to improve any organization, and the federal government is no exception," Archuleta said.
