The President’s Council on Veterans Employment has approved a new government-wide Veterans Recruitment and Employment Strategic Plan for 2014 – 2017.
In the four years since the veterans employment initiative was started, the percentage of veterans hired into the federal service has increased. In fiscal 2013, 31 percent of the 162,839 new employees hired (50,502) were veterans.
The new plan focuses on actions to improve employment opportunities for veterans and introduces an emphasis on retention while focusing on the reintegration of federal employees who are deployable Reservists or National Guardsmen.
After splitting a key focus area into two, the new plan focuses on: leadership commitment, skills development, employment, marketing and information gateway.
