Federal Manager's Daily Report

President-elect Barack Obama has named Nancy Killefer as Chief Performance Officer and will likely nominate the management consultant as deputy management director of OMB as well.

Killefer leads the public sector practice in the Washington, D.C. offices of management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.

She served in the Treasury Department from 1997 to 2000 as assistant secretary for management, CFO, and COO.

Killefer has also led modernization efforts at the IRS and helped to reshape Treasury management processes. She holds an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School.

Obama cited a comment she made when she was offered her first post at the Treasury department that she was not interested in merely keeping "the trains running on time."

"Nancy is an expert in streamlining processes and wringing out inefficiencies so that taxpayers and consumers get more for their money," he said, adding, "she’s always worked tirelessly to empower employees to take matters into their own hands: to rethink outmoded ways of doing things, to embrace new systems and technologies, and to take initiative in developing better practices."
