Federal Manager's Daily Report

OMB has announced it has funded its first pilot project under its Partnership Fund for Program Integrity Innovation, designed to encourage testing new ways of reducing red tape, cutting improper payments and improving how beneficiaries receive services.

It said it is funding a project at the Department of the Treasury to test new methods of working with states to significantly improve the integrity of payments made under the Earned Income Tax Credit to reduce errors and provide assistance to those in need.

The EITC program provides financial support to low and moderate-income workers and helps directly reward work, but it exhibits a high error rate, wasting money and leaving individuals underserved, OMB said, adding that the project could save up to $100 million a year.
