The National Security Personnel System program office has published an online training course — iSuccess — designed to help employees write job objectives and self-assessments for the Defense Department’s new pay for performance personnel system.
The tool is based on feedback from the first round of employees to be enrolled in NSPS, called spiral 1.1, and the program office said the drafted objectives could serve as a starting point for discussions between employees and supervisors working to complete mission-aligned objectives.
The tool uses a "virtual coach" and "virtual employees" to provide important tips and techniques for writing, as well as specific examples, according to the program office.
It said the tool helps employees write effective job objectives using a framework dubbed "SMART" which stands for specific, measurable, aligned, realistic, and timed.
