The Office of Personnel Management has announced that it
will hold its 2006 federal workforce conference – dubbed
“transformation for results” – at the Baltimore
Convention Center Feb. 27 – March 2.
It said the conference will feature four days of sessions
and seminars focusing on major issues and initiatives
facing federal managers responsible for any aspect of
human capital management.
“This conference will address the key challenges federal
HR managers face today, including a greater focus on
accountability, increased competition for talent, and
changing worker values and expectations,” said Michael
Beckmann, OPM’s acting deputy associate director for its
center for leadership capacity services.
“Our objective is to help our HR professionals prepare
for a shift in roles that requires them to operate with
fewer rules and greater responsibility for results,” he
added.
New sessions this year focus on employee benefits,
leadership practices and development programs, strategic
human capital management, and background investigations,
the later the focus of a recent report from the Merit
Systems Protection Board Report urging their wider use.
OPM said 1,900 people attended last year from 68 agencies
and 43 states. More information is available at:
